Department of Education

According to great educationist, Dumvile, “Education in its wide sense includes all the influences which act upon an individual during his passage from cradle to grave”. Education is a multi-disciplinary discipline having close association with psychology, philosophy, sociology, history etc. As such this aims at holistic development of learners through value based education. Education as an academic discipline covers a wide range of topics and subjects but mainly based on the ideas, practices, institutions and systems prevailing in the field of education. Education Department offers General Course as well as Honours Course to Degree students.

Department of English

The Department of English is one of the oldest and reputed departments of the college. It offers both Minor and Honours Courses to the degree students. Besides these, the department also offers Skill Enhancement and Abillity Enhancement Courses. The department have qualified teaching faculty who have specialization in several areas of literary and language studies such as British English Literature, World Literature through Translation, Indian Writings in English, literary criticism and literary theory, popular literature, semiotics, stylistics, creative writing, translation, the history and development of English language, Research Methodology, forms of literature, rhetorical devices, grammar and language skills, comprehension, composition and creative writing. Students admitted to different semesters of Undergraduate Programme go through two days orientation programme to have basic knowledge about the various approaches and methodologies of literary and language studies. The performance of the students in last years has been consistently of high standard. The department organizes seminars, debate, quiz, group discussion and other co-curricular activities for the students. At present the department has five faculty members.

Department of History

History is often called as the “Queen” or “Mother” of social sciences. It is considered as an indispensable subject in the complete education of men. According to Miller, “the course of life is like the sea; men come and go, tides rise and fall, and that is all of history”. A course in history promotes an understanding of the major stages in the evolution of the society through the ages. It develops an appreciation of the growth of composite Indian culture and legitimate pride in the achievements of the Indian people in different parts of the country. It enables students to be free from irrational prejudices, bigotry and communication and is imbued with a scientific and forward outlook. Department of History offers both Honours and General Courses to Degree students.

Department Of Political Science

The Department of Political Science is carried on by well qualified and experienced faculty since the inception of the college. The Department offers both Minor and Honours courses to the degree students and the honours students are having freedom to choose the optional from a list of subjects like Local-Self Government in India, Human Rights, Women and Politics in India, Govt. and Politics of North East India, Conflict and Peace studies, International Law. The faculty are specialised in Research Methodology, Foreign Policy, Gender Studies, State Politics and Women Politics which help the students to grasp the knowledge on different fields of importance. The Department is active in engaging students in seminars, debates, discussions and quiz competitions on issues of diverse interests. The activities keep the student, faculty and the department vibrant and dynamic.
