INNOVATIVE PRACTICES


The Zisaji Presidency College is Government College affiliated to Nagaland University and following the guidelines of it in delivering teaching and learning in a successful way. While delivering teaching –learning process, the institution has certain innovative ideas to make it more fruitful and success.

    1. Departmental Clubs: In order to make the each department lively and active, every department has their own club like ‘Club Politicos’ in Political Science, ‘Learning Tree’ in Education, ‘Morung’ in History, ‘Semiotics’ in English, ‘Econ’ in Economics. These clubs are engaged in different activities like quiz , debate, essay and seminars & workshops among the students of the concerned department and award them cash prize with certificates. This develops a competitive critical thinking and innovative ideas on different concepts related to the subjects.
    2. Remedial Classes: The institution is following the arrangement of ‘Remedial classes’ for the poor and slow learners on regular basis to strengthen their learning and understanding skills and make them fit to complete their study successfully. Remedial classes are given in micro groups with a very student friendly environment to understand their academic problems and resolve it instantly.
    3. Peer Teaching:Peer teaching method is the core strategy of teaching in the college as it deals with many slow learners below average students. To make them equipped, the teachers always identify the best and quick learners and make them equipped for peer teaching in the class. This has been proved as an satisfactory tool of teaching in the college with intrinsic motivation.
    4. Unit Test and Model Test: Unit Test and Model test are the two core Strategy of college to earn good result and to keep the students engaged with academic works. This helps the college to establish a competitive academic sphere among the students and finally leads the college to stand in a better position and at the same time makes the students confident enough to face the examination.
    5. Mentoring: Mentoring is another strategy adopted by the college to understand the strength and weaknesses of each and every student individually. Each teacher of the college get assigned with a small group of students (around 10) for mentoring. The concerned teacher guides them through the semester in all possible ways which helps in sharpening the mind and works of the students. The concerned mentor also makes them good in discipline, time management, leadership, goal setting and achieving success.
    6. Career Counseling: The college has a career counseling cell through which it invites the resource persons available locally and organizes talks and activity sessions to make the students decide on the future career options.The institution is trying its best to implement innovative ideas by looking the needs of the students and institutions as well.

BEST PRACTICES


    1. Earn While You Learn: Through this programme, the college is supporting the poor students through various activities of the college. The manual works are offered to the students after their class hour and during holidays with payment at the market rate which helps them to pay their admission and examination fees and continue their studies. This programme has the best benefit of reducing the drop-out rate in the college due to financial contrainsts. Through this, the college identifies the self sustaining talent of the students which are generally molded towards self employment in their future career. This practice was also highly praised by the NAAC peer team during their visit for accreditation.
    2. Career Resource Centre: The institution opened a career resource centre attached with the Library to give proper guidance and counseling to the prospective students, 6th semester students and alumni to facilitate them to prepare different competitive examinations like Banking, Railway, NPSC, UPSC and NSSB in a successful way. The study materials are given to the students and guidance is given by different faculty for their success.
    3. Visiting to Orphanage:The NCC cadets of the college started visiting to the ‘Shalom Children’s Home’ in the district to meet the orphans to show a feeling of Human solidarity and supply food and clothes since 2022. The NCC cadets interact with the children’s and give them lot of moral confidence to lead their life in more meaningful ways.
    4. Use of Solar Energy: The Institution is trying its best to minimize the electric power consumption substituted by solar energy. Today, the college has solar street light in and around its campus and a 3kv Solar system installed for Examination branch. This is a new approach from economic point of view.
    5. Institution based awards & scholarships for Students: Besides the scholarships from the Government, the college has adopted various scholarship/ freeship schemes to motivate the students to perform better and to increase the enrolment in the college.
  • a. Zisaji Meritorious Freeship: Through this programme ( introduced in 2022), the college gives up to 20% relaxation in the admission fee to the poor students having 70% and above marks in class-12 NBSE examination at the entry point. This helps the college to retain the best performing students of the District in the college.
  • b. Zisaji Freeship (for Orphans): To encourage the orphans to continue their higher education, the college offers 50% relaxation in the admission fee at the entry point and later if they can secure 65% and above marks in the Semester examination then the same freeship is continued for them in the successive semester admission( introduced in 2022).
  • c. Zisaji Academic Excellence Award: Rs 10,000 is earmarked to be given to the student who can secure distinction / a position among the toppers in the final year examination result of NU.
  • d. Governors Award: For one male and one female student who secures the highest mark(CGPA) in the final year examination from the college.
  • e. Helen Jamir Academic Excellence Award in English: The Award was institutionalized during the Silver jubilee of the College with the sponsorship of Smti. Helen Jamir, former principal of the college. The award is meant for the student securing highest CGPA from English department in the Final Year examination.
